Occupational Therapy

Why occupational therapy for mental health care?

Most people associate occupational therapy with injury or physical rehab- but OT has deep roots in mental health. Our nervous system is the foundation of how we function: how we eat, sleep, relate, focus, and move through the world. Trauma, tress, or dysregulation disrupts that foundation.

Occupational therapy is one of the only professions that directly addresses the nervous system, daily routines, sensory needs, and emotional regulation—all through a functional lens. At Grow in Grace, we look at how your mind, body, and spirit are working together (or not) and help you rebuild from the ground up. Not just to survive—but to thrive in real life.

Why isn’t my child responding to traditional mental health treatment?

Traditional mental health treatment—including talk therapy and medication—is built for people who are already regulated. But a child who has experienced trauma or toxic stress doesn’t have access to the same parts of the brain that allow for insight, reflection, or behavior change. Their system is still in survival mode.

Medication can sometimes reduce the symptoms, but it doesn’t teach the body how to feel safe. And talk therapy can be powerful—but only after regulation is in place. At Grow in Grace, we meet the child where they are biologically, not just behaviorally. We focus on nervous system regulation, sensory processing, and safety—so that therapy can actually work when the time is right.

My child just had a home visit and now they’re acting out. How do I control them

You don’t need to control them—you need to understand what’s happening.

What looks like defiance is often dysregulation. A home visit or triggering event activates your child’s survival brain—and that stress takes time to process. A child with trauma may take 30–96 hours to metabolize stress, compared to about 6 hours for a child raised in a safe, nurturing environment. Their system is doing what it’s wired to do: protect them.

At Grow in Grace, we help you learn what your child’s behavior is really saying, and how to respond with regulation over reaction. The goal isn’t control—it’s connection and restoration.

My child has been in therapy for months—why aren’t things getting better

Because traditional therapy often treats the symptoms, not the root.

If your child is still dysregulated, anxious, or acting out, it’s likely because their nervous system has never been fully addressed. Many therapy models start with behavior and emotion—but if the body doesn’t feel safe, the brain can’t access those parts.

We start with regulation, rhythm, and routine. We look at sensory needs, daily structure, and the environment as part of healing. Once the nervous system feels safe, everything else begins to shift.

Neurological Rehabilitation

How can I get more fine-tuned neuro care for the small problems I’m still having?

In traditional neuro rehab, services often stop once you’re “good enough.” But what if you’re still dealing with subtle symptoms—brain fog, memory issues, mood swings, poor focus, or fine motor difficulties?

At Grow in Grace, we offer high-level neuro treatment for the things that still don’t feel quite right. Using functional tasks, nervous system work, and personalized strategies, we help you get from stable to fully thriving. You don’t have to live with lingering effects just because insurance says you’re “done.”

What’s different about how you treat brain-based issues?

Most systems separate the brain from the body—but we don’t. The brain and nervous system influence everything: how we think, move, connect, cope, and rest.

We treat neuro-based challenges through the lens of function, sensory integration, cognition, and daily life. Whether you’re recovering from a brain injury, navigating long-term conditions, or rebuilding after burnout, we use tools that help rewire the brain and restore what trauma or stress may have disrupted.

Why hasn’t anyone told me this before?

Because the system wasn’t built for full healing. It was built for symptom management.

You’re not broken—you’re responding to a world that didn’t always support your biology, your story, or your spirit.

At Grow in Grace, we’re here to change that. We don’t treat surface-level behaviors—we support full-person restoration. The moment you start to feel safe, seen, and understood… healing begins. That’s what we’re here for.

Grow in Grace Practice

Is this a faith-based service?

Yes. Grow in Grace is rooted in biblical truth and clinical excellence. That means you’ll receive professional, evidence-based care—alongside space for spiritual restoration if that’s something you’re seeking.

We never force faith, but we do believe healing includes the spirit. Many of our clients have tried every traditional method and only began to experience lasting peace when they brought Jesus into the process. If that resonates with you—you’re not alone here.

What kind of clients do you work with?

I work with individuals of all ages who are navigating trauma, stress, emotional dysregulation, neuro challenges, or just feeling stuck in their daily lives. Some come after years of therapy that never fully worked. Others are new to the idea of occupational therapy as a tool for healing. Whether you’re a parent trying to help your child, a young adult working through burnout, or someone recovering from a brain injury, I meet you right where you are—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—and help you move forward in a way that’s safe, sustainable, and real.

What should I expect during a session?

Every session looks a little different—because every client is different. You can expect a calm, supportive space where we focus on nervous system regulation, sensory needs, daily life rhythms, and restoring function in a way that feels tangible and empowering. I may use movement, conversation, structured tools, or quiet reflection depending on what your system needs that day. You’ll never be rushed, dismissed, or treated like a diagnosis. We build your care with you, not around you.
